The Southampton Publick House, located in Southampton Village on the site of historic "Herb McCarthy's Bowden Square", was established in July 1996 as the first and only Microbrewery/Restaurant on the East End of Long Island.

Rated by Zagat’s as one of Long Island’s Best, it was voted #1 Brewpub in America by BeerAdvocate.com in 2003, and in June 2004, Southampton Imperial Baltic Porter was recognized in Men's Journal as one of "The 25 Best American Specialty Beers." Locally, Dan’s Papers has acknowledged them as Best Happy Hour for three years in a row.

The products of the Southampton Publick House has earned a solid regional and national reputation for their high quality and uniqueness. The brewery produces an eclectic range of traditional British, German, American, and Belgian styles.

The brewery gained national recognition in 1997 for it's "Peconic County Reserve", an unusual ale made with locally grown Chardonnay grapes. Since 1998, SPH has been recognized for their brewing excellence at The Great American Beer Festival, Real Ale Festival, and the World Beer Cup. Publick House brews have earned 7 Gold Medals, 6 Silver Medals and 3 Bronze Medals. Award-winning Secret Ale became available as a retail product throughout the New York metropolitan area in the Fall of 2004.

Description of Menu/style: Southampton Publick House offers a contemporary American menu highlighted by Sully’s Famous Baby Back Ribs, Mussels in Beer Broth, Ale-marinated French Cut Pork Chop with herb goat cheese and Lemon Peppered Chicken. Leave room for dessert, you won’t want to leave without a taste of SPH’s Mississippi Mud Cake or their “old-fashioned” apple pie.

Famous Faces: Set in the heart of Southampton, locals and celebrities alike enjoy the great food and comfortable charm of Southampton Publick House. Mel Brooks, Alec Baldwin, Billy Joel and Paul Sorvina have dined at 40 Bowden Square.

About Donald Sullivan: Native Long Islander and long-time east ender, Don spends time serving the business community as well as the arts. He is active in the Long Island Visitors and Convention Bureau, Southampton Chamber of Commerce, and the Parrish Art Museum.

Phil Markowski, a respected veteran East Coast Brewmaster from Connecticut, has been handling the brewing duties since SPH opened. Phil was awarded the prestigious Russell Scherrer Award for Excellence in Brewing. He has served as a judge at the world-renowned Great American Beer Festival and recently published his first book Farmhouse Ales.
